An extremely rare and exquisite pair of mid nineteenth century Samson, Edme' et Cie, Paris oil lamps in the Imari pallette. Beautifully hand decorated and cast hard-paste porcelain vase and collar with individual characteristics. Mounted to original bronze ring spacers and cast bamboo style bases.
Now tastefully converted to electricity and shown with silk pagoda shades by Lisa Wrigley
in a matching iron oxide red and gold with fringe and tassell.

Edme' Samson (1810-1891) started manufacturing ceramics in 1830 and established his name for making replacements for pieces of broken dinner service by famous makers. His factory at 7 Rue Vendome, Paris was opened in 1845 and he later moved to Rue Beranger. Work included many pieces in the style of Meissen, Sevre, Chelsea, Derby and many more. In 1864 his son Emille moved the business 7 kilometers from the centre of Paris to Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis, and the factory continued through to 1969 when the business was closed and final saleroom stock designs were sold at
Christie's in London.
